Competitor Product Analysis for an Alkaline Degreaser
The client needed to determine whether the performance difference came from the competitor’s formulation or from the raw materials used in trial production. Continuing to adjust ingredient ratios without verifying the materials would have resulted in further costly trial and error.
Degreaser Chemical Analysis and Raw Material Verification
Xinbodi compared the benchmark degreaser with the client’s purchased raw materials. 1H NMR and 31P NMR were used to examine chemical identities and component profiles..
Mass spectrometry was then used to compare the molecular profiles of the water-soluble components, together with physicochemical measurements and approximate content analysis. Mass spectrometry is particularly valuable for characterizing multicomponent formulations, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed research on the mass spectrometry analysis of complex surfactant mixtures. The analysis evaluated chemical identities, component profiles, and approximate content ranges.
Formulation Analysis Finding: Incorrect Raw Material Grade
The results showed that one purchased raw material did not match the required chemical grade and composition. This mismatch changed the surfactant and functional component profile, preventing the trial formulation from reproducing the competitor product’s performance.
Supporting Formula Reconstruction and Mass Production
After sourcing the correct raw material, the client successfully completed the formula reconstruction trials and moved the alkaline degreaser into mass production. Competitor product analysis combined with raw material verification helped eliminate blind reformulation and shorten the development process.
